 English Women's Lacrosse Umpires

Apprentice Level

To qualify as an Apprentice you will first need to have taken the basic apprentice umpiring course and then to have applied your newly-acquired skills successfully in a practice game supervised by the clinician.

In order to move up to a Level 1 rating, after having taken the basic course and obtained your Apprentice rating you need to have umpired at least 3 full games, completed and submitted your game log signed off by the coach or captain of each team from the logged games, passed the online rules test and been rated by an Approved Tester on a suitable game or games lasting at least 40 minutes in total.

Whilst you hold an Apprentice rating you generally need to have a more experienced umpire on the game with you, often someone who is rated at least Level 2, and you will not be eligible to umpire some types of game.  The minimum umpiring requirements for School, BUCS and Club games can be found here

Apprentice ratings last for 1 year to give you time to develop your skills before taking the rules exam and field test to become a Level 1 official.

For details of forthcoming Apprentice Umpire courses, see the Calendar

The standards required for each level of Umpire can be found under Rating Requirements
