 English Women's Lacrosse Umpires

Level 2

You may apply to be rated as a Level 2 umpire at any time after you have qualified as a Level 1 and subsequently logged at least 10 games. As always, you must have passed the most recent Online Rules Test with the score required for the level of rating you are seeking and must have attended a rules course within the past three years. From the beginning of the 2009-2010 season, a Level 1 umpire who wishes to become a Level 2 must pass the online rules test on an open book basis with a mark of at least 80%.

Your performance as an umpire will be tested on the field by an Approved Tester (who must be at least a Level 3 Umpire themselves and on the list of Approved Testers) during a game of not less than 40 minutes' duration. It may be possible to be assessed over a number of shorter tournament games for this purpose, and if you wish to be tested at a tournament you should contact the R&U well in advance to enquire as to whether the particular tournament is acceptable as a rating opportunity. A number of options are identified on the Calendar page on this website, but it is up to you to make arrangements with the R&U for an approved tester to attend. If you need assistance in this regard, please contact assignor@laxumps.co.uk
Please note that if you wish to be tested at Level 2 or above you will need to be wearing stripes and to be properly equipped (i.e. whistle, cards, and yellow flag). At any level, whenever umpiring a game umpires should always have the proper equipment and wear stripes or at least clothing of a neutral colour, preferably black.

If you are already a Level 2 Umpire, from the beginning of the 2009-2010 season you will need to pass the online rules test annually on an open book basis with a mark of at least 80%, to attend a refresher course at least once every three years and to umpire and log at least 10 games each season to maintain your rating until its expiry date. There will also be an annual service requirement, details of which will be published soon.

Your Level 2 rating will expire on the date stated on the Current Umpires List unless before then you have renewed it by being field tested by an Approved Tester (who must be at least a Level 3 Umpire themselves) during a game of not less than 40 minutes' duration. It may be possible to be assessed over a number of shorter tournament games for this purpose, and if you wish to be tested at a tournament you should contact the R&U well in advance to enquire as to whether the particular tournament is acceptable as a rating opportunity.
